Last week, Sciue partnered with Moenby Media and Vancouver-based photographer Rico D. Cancio to provide pizza for an exciting charity event, “The Art of Building a Windmill in Africa by Good Misfit.”
The event — which took place across from Sciue’s Pender Street location, at the ING Cafe — was a wine social and art-based event, with artwork up for auction, all to raise funds for a windmill in Africa. Local organizer, Tracy Bymoen, put great care into crafting her event and wanted to make sure the event was both valuable and meaningful for those who attended. Event partners and sponsors were chosen only if she thought they aligned with the project’s overall values soTracy chose to provide Sciue pizza as an appetizer for her attendees because she said she appreciates Sciue’s authentic, handcrafted and accessible approach to Italian cuisine.
“Good Misfit” is a project bringing 30 fundraisers from around the world together during the month of June for the purpose of solving one tangible problem — a village’s need for water and sustainable irrigation. And so it was that on June 20, here in Vancouver, Moenby Media put on this event to help build a windmill, as part of a massive irrigation project, for the village of Gambella, Kenya. Tracy told Sciue, “to be clear, for the people of Gambella, this isn’t any ol’ windmill… This windmill is being built with heart…and not only that, but it will also serve as a symbol of hope, of growth, and of a new beginning for them.”
Sciue is very proud to have been connected to this effort and so far Moenby Media has raised $1523.00!
But, they want to keep going… to keep raising more funds to help the people of Gambella, Kenya in an even bigger way. In fact, Moenby Media wants to push that even closer to $2000 before the end of the day Saturday, June 30!
